Ordering Russian Magazines

Have you ever wanted to read magazines like Elle, Vogue, Cosmopolitan or Bazaar in Russian? No me neither but I did find a neat site:

http://www.bestperiodika.com/

In addition to the "fluff" they have a ton of magazines from Russia including children's magazines (for those of you just starting in Russian), history, family, sports etc.

The subscriptions are really expensive ($100 +) but I recommend going to the "Sale" section. There you can order individual issues for as little as $1.50. They are old (from 2002-2004) but if you're just in it to see "real Russian" in use then it is a great and affordable resource for you.

Great Site For Russian

Just ran across this site:

http://www.russianlessons.net/home.php

for learning Russian. Phrases, exercises, grammar the works and the best part about it of course is that it's FREE. Looks pretty good from what I've seen so far. It also has some audio and a section for advanced learners with articles etc.

Learning Language Through Magazines

I've got 2 interesting links for those of you who would like to learn language by reading magazines. Although they are a little on the expensive side I have found it to be a pretty good learning tool. Only recommended for intermediate and advanced learners though. If you're a beginner and want a challenge you can give it a shot. Basically what both sites offer are magazines a couple of times a year with or without a CD with a native speaker reading the articles. Each article has a select number of words translated in a glossary at the bottom of the article. The nice thing is you are reading "real" language and not just See Spot Run sort of stuff.

Offers German, French and Spanish. I REALLY wish they would do one in Russian too :)

Great Source For Older Books

I ran across this link today:

http://www.archive.org/details/texts

You can literally find texts, audio and even video from libraries around the world. Mainly older texts that have been scanned but here's the great part - not only is everything free to download but you don't have to be a student to access it and the texts are complete (not those read a bit then pay for the rest things like many sites have). You can search American libraries as well as other libraries around the world. Looks like a great resource - it's nice that you don't have to go through the trauma of trying to get a book on loan from a library that isn't located anywhere near where you live.
